St Henry's Cathedral Parish is offering another Workshop for Lectors (i.e. Readers) in November to provide official training for those who feel called to assist the Diocese through reading at Mass. The workshop will be offered in English, but lectors who serve their parish - either St Henry's or another Catholic parish in Finland - in other languages are also very welcome to take part.
A first workshop was arranged in the spring of 2014, by Andy Bassuday and Sr Renée Brinker CPPS, but now the Lectors' Workshop training has been made an ongoing operation. Please sign up for the next workshop by contacting the Lector Workshop coordinator Joran Wauters or filling in this form.
The autumn 2016 Lectors' Workshop will be arranged on Saturday November 19th from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at St Henry's. It is intended both for beginners and also those have attended one or more of the earlier workshops, so do come!
The first part is a preparation period which would consist, at least partly, of Biblical study of instances wherein Christ or St. Paul, etc., extols the duty and honor of the reading of a lesson and the facilitator describes the responsibility, beauty, and joy of "proclaiming" - not just reading - the Word of God, because the Word is Christ Himself.
During this segment we will address the Spiritual, Mental & Physical preparation, bowing to the altar, to the Word, to the celebrant, to each other. Appropriate dress code for this ministry will also be addressed.
Techniques for Reading
The second segment of the Workshop will focus on the techniques of reading, microphone technique, emphasizing the necessity of clear, well enunciated reading charged with meaning but not dramatics.
Discussion & Sharing
Finally, there will be time for discussion & sharing of ideas among the prospective lectors ensuring everyone is on the same page as regards protocol.
