70 years since death of Father von Christierson

At 6 p.m. on Wednesday, November 11, 2015, Bishop Teemu Sippo SCJ will celebrate a Requiem Mass for Father Wilfrid von Christierson (1878-1945) at St Henry's Cathedral.

Father von Christierson was the first Finnish-born Parish Priest at St Henry's, serving as Parish Priest from 1906 through 1911 after having studied and been ordained to the priesthood in Paris, France. Wednesday's Mass is celebrated to mark the 70th anniversary of his death.

Diocesan Feast on August 15

This year's Diocesan Day will be held on Saturday, August 15th. The celebrations will begin with a Pontifical Mass in the medieval Saint Lawrence Church in Lohja at 10.00. At the Mass Dominican Brother Gabriel Salmela OP will be ordained a priest by Bishop Teemu Sippo SCJ. Before the Mass, there is opportunity for confession. After the Mass, the feast will continue at Stella Maris.

St Henry's Cathedral Parish provides bus transport to and from the Diocesan Feast. The parish bus to Lohja and Stellia Maris costs EUR15 and is paid in cash on the bus. Please note that the bus will be leaving St Henry's at 8.15 a.m.

Please let the parish know if you are coming even if you come by private car, for instance by filling in this online form. If you've already signed up by calling the parish office or at a church coffee, you don't need to fill in the form.

To Köyliö by Bus

This summer's date for the traditional pilgrimage to Köyliö to honour Saint Henry, the patron saint of our Cathedral, our Diocese and all of Finland, is Sunday, June 14. The bus to Köyliö leaves St Henry's Cathedral at 9 a.m. and stops at the bus 18 bus stop by St Mary's at 9.15-9.20. The bus fare is EUR 25 and is paid on the bus.

Both going to and coming from Köyliö the bus will stop for a coffee break in Humppila. Shopping is also possible.

The Mass at the site of St Henry's martyrdom begins at 1 p.m. We will be ferried across to the island of Kirkkokari in boats or on rafts, the crossing fee is EUR 4.

After Mass, the local village association sells excellent sandwiches and coffee for a reasonable price on the lake shore, so you will not need to pack a lunch.

We will return to Helsinki around 6 or 7 p.m., depending on traffic.
